Tigers Defeat Felician; Explode for Season-High Four Goals

Lyndhurst, N.J. -  The Holy Family University men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals on its way to the victory over Felician College by the score of 4-2 on Saturday night at Lyndhurst Recreation.

Holy Family improves to 4-4-3 overall and 2-3-2 in conference action, while Felician falls to 1-10-0 overall and 1-5-0 in the CACC.  The Tigers are at .500 for the first time since the first week of the season.

The Tigers scored a season-high four goals, including three in the first half on the way to their third straight victory.  Junior Aiah Mbriwa (Abington, Pa./Philmont Christian Academy) got things going right away as he scored his second goal of the season in the third minute.  Mbriwa headed a cross pass from sophomore Justin Hiltwine (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) past Felician goalkeeper, senior Anthony Tsouhnikas.  The assist marked Hiltwine's fifth of the season.

Holy Family doubled its lead midway through the half when junior Kevin McCollick (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp.) scored his second goal of the season in the 24th minute.  Junior Kevin Pohl (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) assisted on the play for his first point of the season.

As the half progressed, the Tigers tacked on another goal this time from senior Kevan Melly (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) in the 37th minute. Melly launched a shot from 30-yards out for his first career goal, which gave the Tigers a 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 in favor of the Tigers through halftime.  Holy Family added another score in the 56th minute after junior James Annobil (Northwales, Pa. (London)/Wissahickon) drove home a shot inside the box to make the score 4-0.  It marked Annobil's third score of the season, while Mbriwa was credited with the assist.

Felician finally got on the board in the 78th minute when senior Chris Hall scored off a free kick to make the score 4-1.  Hall would tally another score for the Golden Falcons in the 86th minute as he headed in a corner kick by senior Alex Jean.

That would be as close as Felician would get as time ran out on the Golden Falcons potential come-back.

Both teams managed ten shots throughout the game, including eight in the first half by the Tigers.  Junior goalkeeper Richard Ongaro (Columbus, N.J./Notre Dame/VCU) made one save in net for Holy Family as only three shots by the Golden Falcons were on target.

Holy Family is back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 7 as the Tigers host Molloy College in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 7 p.m. at RAMP Playground in Northeast Philadelphia.
