Tigers Come Up Short 3-1 at Philadelphia




Philadelphia, Pa. - Freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded a season-high 21 kills but it wasn't enough as the Holy Family University women's volleyball team dropped a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest at cross-town rival Philadelphia University on Wednesday night at the Gallagher Center.
 
Holy Family is now 11-15 overall and 9-6 in the CACC, while Philadelphia improves to 13-12 overall and 10-5 in conference action.  With four matches to play this season, the Tigers currently sit in fourth place in the CACC South Division.  Holy Family holds the fourth and final postseason spot by one game over Chestnut Hill College (8-7). 
 
Philadelphia opened the match with a 25-23 victory in the first set, however Holy Family responded with a 25-21 win in set two to tie the match.  The Rams though went to take the next two sets to clinch the match by the scores of 25-20 and 25-12.
 
M. Ingram led the Tigers with a new career-high as she registered a match-high 21 kills.  She recorded a .265 attack percentage to go along with seven digs.  Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) tallied eight kills and five digs, while senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) and redshirt sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) came away with six kills each.  D. Ingram also tallied 37 set assists and 12 digs. Miller finished with a team-high three block assists.
 
Freshman Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) led the defense with 14 digs, while sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) added 12 digs.
 
For Philadelphia, senior Terra Ecker, junior Chelsea Hughes and freshman Corinne Justus all led the Rams with ten kills each.  Sophomore Michele Chai finished with a match-high 20 digs, while junior Nina Morvin led the team with 25 set assists.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 1 as the Tigers travel to face Bloomfield College in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 1 p.m.
