Tigers Edged by Dominican, 3-2



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team went the distance with Dominican College, however the Chargers came away with the 3-2 victory in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest on Saturday evening at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  The Chargers won the match by the scores of 26-24, 20-25, 18-25, 25-15, 15-10.
 
Holy Family is now 11-14 overall and 9-5 in the CACC, while Dominican improves to 12-6 overall and 9-6 in conference action.
 
After dropping the first set by the score of 26-24, Holy Family rallied to win the next two sets to take a 2-1 lead in the match.  The Tigers took set two by the score of 25-20 and then won set three in ease, 25-18.
 
However, Dominican rallied to take the fourth set 25-15 and went on the win the fifth and decisive set, 15-10.  In the fifth set, the Chargers opened with a 5-1 advantage before Holy Family cut the deficit down to two points at 11-9.  Dominican held off the Tigers and went on to win scoring four of the last five points.
 
Junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) led the Holy Family attack with 20 kills to go along with eight digs on defense.  Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) also recorded double-digit kills with ten, while senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) filled the stat sheet with nine kills, nine assists and 19 digs. 
 
Sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) recorded a match-high 27 digs.  Redshirt-sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) contributed four kills to go along with three total blocks.  Freshman Kacie Brien (Turnersville, N.J./Washington Township) finished with a match-high 30 set assists.
 
For Dominican, sophomore McKenzie John led the match with 24 kills, while collecting 18 digs on defense.  Senior Kayla Dexter finished with 16 kills, while junior Keely Fink totaled 22 digs.  Kera Dexter tallied 29 set assists and six kills.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 29 as the Tigers travel to face Philadelphia University in a CACC contest.  Match time is slated for 7 p.m.
