Tigers Continue to Roll at Home With Win Over Goldey-Beacom



Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's volleyball team picked up another home victory as the Tigers defeated Goldey-Beacom College by the score of 3-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Tuesday night in front of a capacity crowd on Student-Athlete Appreciation Night at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  Holy Family is now 5-1 at home this season.
 
Holy Family improves to 11-12 overall and 9-3 in the CACC, while Goldey-Beacom is now 11-13 overall and 5-9 in conference play.  With the win, the Tigers are now tied for first place with Georgian Court University (9-3) in the CACC South Division.  Both Philadelphia University and Wilmington University follow close behind with an 8-3 record.
 
Holy Family jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the match taking the first two sets with ease.  The Tigers led throughout both sets never trailing except for two times in the second set when the score was tied at 5-5 and 10-10. 
 
However, in the third set Goldey-Beacom cut the lead to 2-1 after taking the set by the score of 25-16.  The Lightning took advantage of nine attack errors by the Tigers after committing only eight the first two sets combined.  Holy Family totaled 28 kills and eight attack errors between the first two sets.
 
In the fourth set, Holy Family tallied 15 kills on its way to the one-sided 25-14 victory to clinch the match.  The Tigers jumped out to a 10-4 lead and never looked back as they led by as many as ten points late in the set.  A kill by junior Rachel Johnson (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way West) made the score 20-10. 
 
Johnson led a trio of players that record double-digit kills with a match-high 13.  She also finished with seven digs and two block assists on defense.  Junior Emma Herring (Newtown, Conn./Newtown) totaled 12 kills to go along with two service aces, while freshman Melanie Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) contributed 10 kills, three service aces and 15 digs.
 
Sophomore Laura Tamas (Rhode-St-Genese, Belgium) finished with a match-high 17 digs.  Redshirt-sophomore Erin Miller (Chandler, Ariz. /Corona del sol) totaled seven kills and four total blocks on defense.  Miller had one solo block and three block assists to increase her season total to 53 blocks.  Also for Holy Family, sophomore Katelyn Scherber (Woodbridge, Va./Forest Park) totaled eight kills and six assists.
 
Senior Devyn Ingram (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion) recorded a match-high 43 set assists as she has totaled 40-plus assists for the third time this season.  Her season-high is 49 set at Goldey-Beacom back on Sept. 30.
 
For Goldey-Beacom, senior Kadi McCoy led the team with nine kills to go along with 12 digs and three totaled blocks.  McCoy made two solo blocks and had an assist on another.  Junior Innocent Early tallied five kills and five total blocks, including a match-high three solo blocks.  Junior Mackenzie Wilson led the team with 16 digs, while fellow classmate Danielle Cipolletti totaled 22 set assists to go along with three kills and eight digs.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Friday, Oct. 24 as the Tigers travel to face Georgian Court University in a key CACC South Division contest.  Match time is slated for 6 p.m. in Lakewood, N.J.
