Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Tigers Finish in 1-1 Draw With Spartans

Sparkill, N.Y. - After 110 minutes of soccer and a lightning delay, the Holy Family University men's soccer team finished in a 1-1 draw with St. Thomas Aquinas College in a non-conference contest on Tuesday afternoon at Spartan Field.

Holy Family is now 5-6-5 overall, while St. Thomas Aquinas improves to 6-5-3 overall with the win.

Holy Family scored the game's first goal despite being outshot, 11-2, in the first half.  Sophomore Dan Trodden (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored his first career goal in the 32nd minute after receiving a pass from senior Keith Crews (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South).

The lead didn't last long as the Spartans tied the game minutes later when Michael Corbi converted a penalty kick for his tenth goal of the season.  Corbi's goal tied the game in the 35th minute.

From there, the game was halted for a 40-minute delay due to lightning in the area before play resumed with consistent rain.  The score remained 1-1 through by halftime and through the second half.

In overtime, senior goalkeeper Nick Aglira (Churchville, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made a pair of saves in the first overtime period to help preserve the tie.  The Spartans totaled three shots, but the Holy Family defense held them to zero shots in the second overtime period.  Aglira finished the game with a season-high 11 saves after facing 20 shots.

Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 25 as the Tigers host Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest.  Game time is slated for 1:30 p.m. at Tiger Field.
