Tigers Fall to Dowling 4-1 in Non-Conference Tilt

Brookhaven, N.Y. - Dowling College scored four second half goals as the Golden Lions defeated the Holy Family University women's soccer team by the score of 4-1 in a non-conference contest on Wednesday afternoon at Golden Lion Field.
 
Holy Family is now 4-3-0 overall as the Tigers saw their season long four-game losing streak come to an end.  Dowling improves to 5-1-1 overall after the victory.
 
After a scoreless first half, Dowling scored back-to-back goals in a four-minute span to take a 2-0 lead early in the second half.  Senior Ally Abruzzo scored the game's first goal in the 56th minute as she tallied her second goal of the season.
 
Minutes later, Lindsey Thompson connected on her fourth goal of the season after receiving a cross bass from sophomore Allie Merrill to double the lead at 2-0.
 
Holy Family went on to cut Dowling's lead in half when sophomore Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) scored her third goal of the season in the 65th minute. 
 
However, Dowling tacked on two more goals late in the half both coming off the leg of freshman Taylor Davide in the 76th and 83rd minutes.
 
Freshman goalkeeper Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Regional) made eight saves in net for the Tigers after facing 22 shots by the Golden Lions.
 
Holy Family is back in action on Sunday, Sept. 29 as the Tigers travel to face Post University in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference contest.  Game time is slated for 12 p.m.
