BOX SCORE
Orangeburg, N.Y. - Sophomore
Lisa Abramski (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Kellenberg Memorial) scored a pair of goals to propel the Holy Family University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory at Dominican College in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest on Saturday afternoon at the DC Soccer Field.
Â
Holy Family improves to 8-5-3 overall and 7-1-3 in the CACC, while Dominican College is now 6-4-4 overall and 6-3-2 in conference action. The win turned out to be a key victory for the Tigers as they enter the regular season finale on Tuesday at Georgian Court University with the CACC Regular Season Title on the line. Georgian Court fell to Caldwell College today, 1-0, and as a result places Holy Family in striking distance of its first regular season title since 2007 when the Tigers went 11-0-0 in conference play.
Â
Georgian Court (8-1-2 CACC) has 26 points in the standings, while Holy Family is close behind with 24 points. The winner of Tuesday's contest will earn the top seed in next month's CACC Tournament as well as claim this year's CACC Regular Season Title. Either way, both teams will host a quarterfinal contest after clinching at the very least a top-four seeding in the tournament.
Â
Trailing 1-0 late in the first half, Abramski came through with her first of two goals as she tied the game in the 35
th minute. Abramski received a pass from senior
Corinne Retter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) to set up the score.
Â
The game remained tied 1-1 the rest of the half and deep into the second stanza as well. It wasn't until the 86
th minute that the tied score would be broken up. Abramski once again came through for the Tigers after sophomore
Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) assisted on the play. Abramski's second score of the game gave Holy Family the 2-1 victory. She now leads the team with six goals on the season.Â
Â
Freshman goalkeeper
Sienna Smith (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Regional) made six saves in net for the Tigers to earn the victory.Â
Â
Dominican junior Mackenzie Riley scored the game's first goal in the 24
th minute to give the Chargers a 1-0 lead early on in the contest.
Â
As mentioned, the Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 29 at Georgian Court in a battle for the CACC Regular Season Title. Game time is slated for 3:30 p.m.
