Richards Scores Game-Winner as Tigers Defeat Concordia, 2-1 in OT

BOX SCORE

Bronxville, N.Y. - Freshman Jenna Richards (Croydon, Pa./Conwell Egan) scored the game-winning goal :39 seconds into overtime as the Holy Family University women's soccer team defeated Concordia College by the score of 2-1 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory Saturday afternoon at Bronxville, N.Y.

Holy Family, winners of three straight games, improves to 5-9-0 overall and 5-5-0 in conference play, while Concordia remains winless at 0-13-0 overall and 0-10-0 in CACC action.

With the score tied 1-1 in the overtime period, Richards scored an unassisted goal after breaking away from the defense down the right side of the field.  Richards then chipped the ball over the Concordia goalkeeper into the back of the net for her fourth goal of the season and game-winning score to give the Tigers a 2-1 victory.

Holy Family outshot Concordia 22-6 and held a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks in the victory.

The Tigers scored the game's first goal in the 8th minute of action after senior Megan Tole (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) tallied her team-leading seventh goal of the season.  Sophomore MaryKate Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert's) and senior Corinne Retter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) assisted on the play as Tole received a cross pass inside the box to connect on a shot to the right side.

The Tigers' lead would be short lived as Concordia responded with a goal of its own in the 13th minute.  Kerrise Hanley scored her first goal of the season after receiving a pass from midfield from Jennifer Forlini.  Hanley then had a breakaway shot scoring on the right side.

The score remained 1-1 the rest of the way until Richards' overtime game-winner, which gave the Tigers the 2-1 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Rachel Dunkle (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) made one save in net after facing six shots in net for the Tigers, while her counterpart, Johana Vargas, made eight saves for the Clippers.

Holy Family is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 18 as the Tigers travel to face Millersville University in a non-conference contest.  Game time is slated for 4 p.m.
