Philadelphia, Pa. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team scored nine goals as the Tigers defeated Concordia College, 9-4, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate (CACC) conference contest Thursday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family improves to 4-4-0 overall and 2-3-0 in the CACC, while Concordia drops to 2-7-0 overall and 0-6-0 in conference action.
Holy Family came out firing in the first half scoring four goals as junior
Megan Tole (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) got things started early. Tole scored the team's first goal in the 15
th minute to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. Later in the half, Holy Family doubled its lead when a Concordia defender accidently deflected the ball into the Clippers net in the 33
rd minute.
Minutes later Holy Family tacked on its third goal of the game when freshman
Kimber Kisselback (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) scored her third goal of the season off an assist from Tole. Tole finished the game with three assists.
Junior
Paigemarie Pellicciotti (Philadelphia, Pa./John W. Hallahan) closed out the half with her first goal of the season to give Holy Family a 4-0 lead heading into halftime. Freshman
Samantha McCusker (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) assisted on the score in the 42
nd minute.
The Tigers continued where they left off from the first half scoring six minutes into the second frame when sophomore
Erin Blaney (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower) scored her first goal of the season off a pass from her sister, junior
Bree'an Blaney (Philadelphia, Pa./Little Flower), in the 52
nd minute.
In the 59
th minute, Concordia scored its first goal of the game when sophomore Bridgitte McCalla scored her third goal of the season to make the score 5-1. The Clippers tacked on another goal in the 65
th minute, this time it was junior Iyesha Ollivierre scoring her fifth goal of the season to cut the Tigers lead to 5-2.
Despite the rally, Holy Family responded in the 68
th minute when freshman
MaryKate Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert's) scored her first of two goals to make the score 6-2.
Concordia cut into the Holy Family lead again with back-to-back goals from senior Francesca Lombardo (67:29) and McCalla (76:09) to make the score 6-4 late in the half.
Holy Family, though, responded again scoring three straight goals in the final ten minutes to halt Concordia's comeback. The Tigers received goals from Morris in the 80
th minute and back-to-back goals from senior
Dawn Curry (Pennsville, N.J/Pennsville) in the 82
nd and 84
th minute. Curry now has a team-best five goals this season.
Holy Family outshot Concordia, 17-11, and held a 6-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper
Rachel Dunkle (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) made five saves for the Tigers. Fellow classmate
Melissa Benson (Rockledge, Pa./Little Flower) finished with two assists in the victory.
Holy Family is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 1 as the Tigers host Felician College in a CACC contest on 'Soccer Alumni Day'. Game time is slated for 2:30 p.m.
