Orangeburg, N.Y. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team picked up its first conference win of the season after defeating Dominican College, 2-0, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon.
Holy Family improves to 3-2-0 overall and 1-1-0 in conference play, while Dominican falls to 1-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the CACC.
Senior Dawn Curry (Pennsville, N.J/Pennsville) scored the game's first goal in the 17th minute to give Holy Family a 1-0 advantage in the first half. Junior Melissa Benson (Rockledge, Pa./Little Flower) assisted on Curry's third goal in the past two games.
The score remained 1-0 in favor the Tigers through the rest of the half and into halftime.
Holy Family tacked on another goal when freshman MaryKate Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert's) recorded her first collegiate goal in the 67th minute to make the score 2-0.
The Tigers maintained their lead through the rest of regulation as they limited Dominican to only ten shots in the game. Holy Family outshot the Chargers, 18-10 and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Rachel Dunkle (Blandon, Pa./Fleetwood) made five saves in net for Holy Family as she recorded her second straight shutout. Dominican's Kaitlyn Hertz made six saves.
Holy Family is back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 21 as the Tigers travel to face cross-town rival Philadelphia University in a CACC contest. Game time is slated for 4:30 p.m.
