Newark, N.J. - The Holy Family University women's soccer team shutdown Caldwell College in the quarterfinals of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Championship Tuesday afternoon at Rutgers University - Newark's Alumni Field.
Holy Family, seeded sixth in this year's championship, improves to 11-7-0 overall, while third seeded Caldwell wraps up its season with an 8-8-2 mark. With the win, Holy Family advances to the CACC semifinals and will face seventh seeded Dominican College at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 3. This marks the eighth straight season that Holy Family has advanced to the CACC semifinals under head coach Mike Biddle.
Holy Family scored the game's first goal within the first four minutes of action to take an early lead. Senior
Lindsay Fisher (Oakford, Pa./Archbishop Wood) scored her third goal of the season after she connected from eight yards out in the fourth minute. Junior
Melissa Benson (Rockledge, Pa./Little Flower) assisted on the play.
Later in the half, Holy Family doubled its lead when senior
Dawn Curry (Pennsville, N.J/Pennsville) tallied her first of two goals of the afternoon. Curry took a pass from junior
Kathryn Helkowski (Levittown, Pa./Conwell Egan) and shot from 15-yards out scoring her 11
th goal of the season in the 18
th minute.
The score remained 2-0 the rest of the half and into halftime. In the second half, Curry struck again scoring off a corner kick attempt by freshman
MaryKate Morris (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert's) in the 58
th minute. It marked Curry's 12
th goal of the season as Holy Family led 3-0.
The Tigers tacked on another goal in the 78
th minute after junior
Megan Tole (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) received a pass from senior
Amanda Trabosh (Washington Twp., N.J./Gloucester Catholic) up the middle scoring from 15-yards out. Tole's 11
th goal of the season made the score 4-0 with less than 13 minutes to play in regulation.
The Holy Family defense limited Caldwell to only two shots in the second half and seven for the game. The Tigers recorded 18 shots to go along with eight corner kicks. The Cougars also had eight corner kick attempts.
Senior goalkeeper
Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., N.J./Washington Twp. ) made five saves in net for Holy Family as she recorded her second shutout of the season.
