Gillian McCarren

Gillian McCarren joined Holy Family as the director of sports medicine in August 2026.
 
McCarren came to HFU after spending over two years as an outpatient athletic trainer at Temple Health, where she provided primary clinical assistance to the director of orthopaedic trauma. 
 
Her duties included supporting complex wound and fracture care, assistive device fitting and insurance approval, and medical management of polytraumas.  
 
McCarren has seven seasons of collegiate athletic training experience, most recently serving as an assistant athletic trainer at Temple University, where she worked primarily with the women’s basketball team for two years. 
 
Prior to Temple, she spent three seasons as an assistant athletic trainer at Army West Point overseeing the men’s and women’s swimming & diving programs.    
 
She got her start in collegiate athletic training working with the softball team as graduate assistant athletic trainer at Ohio University while she worked toward her Master of Science in Athletic Training. 
 
McCarren was a member of the Honors College as graduated with her Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training at Towson University, where she minored in women and gender studies.  
 
After obtaining her master’s degree, she received her Doctor of Athletic Training, with Graduate Certificates in Diversity Leadership in Higher Education and Teaching in Higher Education, from Temple in August 2025.
