HOCKESSIN, Del. - Goldey-Beacom scored four in the bottom of the ninth to walk-off game two, 5-6, completing a sweep of the HFU Baseball Team in the first round of the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) on Friday.
Holy Family had not trailed in the nightcap up until that point after opening the scoring the fourth inning on an
Andres Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) single and stolen base and
Perry Chetney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville (Millersville University)) single.
The Tigers then made it 2-0 on
Nick Lombardo's (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) solo home run in the fifth.
Goldey-Beacom answered with a homer in the bottom-half, but that was the only run given up by starter
Ryan McLaughlin (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem (Manhattan University)), who limited the Lightning to five hits over 6.1 frames as he struck out 10.
Grant Carlton (Ooltewah, Tenn./Boyd Buchanan) came on to leave a runner on third in the seventh, before
Mitchell Bayles (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen (CCBC Essex)) stranded the bases loaded in the eighth, after GBC had cut the deficit to 2-3.
Holy Family had added insurance on a
Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)) single and stolen base and
Torin McKenzie (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham (Mercer County CC)) single in the top-half.
The Tigers then added two more in the ninth following
Stephen Furia's (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) leadoff double, as Chetney and Hadson-Taylor came through with back-to-back two-out RBI singles.
That was not enough though as GBC took advantage of four base on balls to walk it off on a sacrifice fly. This completed the sweep after the Lightning took the opener 3-19.
Hadson-Taylor reached base four times in game two, finishing 3-for-4 with a base on balls, while Chetney and McKenzie also had multiple base knocks.
