Softball Starts Fast in Game One of Split at Goldey-Beacom

WILMINGTON, Del. - The HFU Softball Team used a four-run first to take control in the opener, defeating Goldey-Beacom 7-4, before the Lightning used two unearned runs to win the nightcap 0-2, as the two teams split their doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

Game One
That first inning featured four hits, beginning with back-to-back one out singles by Jaden Kelly (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River). Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) highlighted the frame with a bases-clearing triple, before Olivia Croge (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) put a stamp on it with an RBI single.

GBC halved the deficit in the third, but the Tigers countered with a run in the fourth, fifth and sixth as Hoban, Rachel Allen (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Elizabethtown)) and Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) all produced RBI singles, with Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) scoring twice.

Hoban, Jones and Croge all finished with two hits, while Kelly also reached two times.

Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) earned her second consecutive complete game win.

Game Two
The two unearned runs came in the bottom of the third.

Holy Family outhit the Lightning 5-4 but stranded seven, four of which were in scoring position, including the bases loaded in the fifth.

Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) did not allow an earned run over her six innings, scattering just four hits.

Offensively, Allen recorded her first two-hit game of the season.
