ASTON, Pa. - The Holy Family University Baseball Team completed a three-game sweep of Bridgeport on Monday afternoon, defeating the Purple Knights 7-2 and 5-4 at Maplezone Sports Institute
Â
Game One
The Tigers led throughout following a four-run second that featured five hits.
Perry Chetney (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville (Millersville University)) led off with a single and after a sacrifice by
Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)), back-to-back singles by
Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton CC)) and
Griffin Richardson (Warminster, Pa./Greenville (Bucks County CC)) made it 1-0.
Â
Following a
Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) RBI groundout,
Logan Mote (Branchburg, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School (Lackawanna College)) (triple) and
Alex Camilo (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle (Alliance University)) (single) came through with consecutive two-RBI base knocks.Â
Â
That was plenty of run support for starter
Ryan McLaughlin (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem (Manhattan University)), who improved to 3-2 with a quality start after surrendering just one run on five hits over six and two thirds.Â
Â
Jake Vasil (Chagrin Falls, Ohio/Kenston (Lake Erie College)) then came on for 1.1 innings of scoreless relief, before
Stefano Gonzales (Torrance, Calif./Mater Dei (Los Angeles PIerce College)) closed it out.Â
Â
Richardson and Mote led the offense with two hits, a run and an RBI, while Hrousis also reached twice and
Andres Rivera (Silver Spring, Md./Woodrow Wilson (Montgomery College)) homered.Â
Â
Game Two
Trailing 2-4 following a three-run top of the fifth, HFU countered with a three-run bottom-half that began with an out.Â
Â
David and Rivera got the rally started with back-to-back walks, before a Hrousis RBI single cut the deficit in half.Â
Â
An error then allowed the tying run to come home, before Richardson came through with the game-winning two out single.Â
Â
Mitchell Bayles (Glen Allen, Va./Glen Allen (CCBC Essex)) proceeded to throw a scoreless sixth to improve to 2-0, while
Trevor Morris (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) earned his fourth save of the season with a scoreless seventh.Â
Â
Rivera finished a perfect 2-for-2 with the walk and an RBI triple to put the Tigers ahead 2-0 in the third.Â
