FLEMINGTON, N.J. – The pitching staff limited CSI to two hits in a 5-1 game two victory as the HFU Baseball Team split with the Dolphins on Thursday at Diamond nation.
College of Staten Island had won game one 2-3.
Game Two
Alexander Ortiz (Hebron, Conn./Lyman Memorial) earned the win with four scoreless innings, in which he gave up just one hit.
Zach Lane (Phoenix, Ariz./Pinnacle (McCook CC)),
Maximus Garcia (Mount Vernon, N.Y./Norwalk) and
Trevor Morris (Bensalem, Pa./Bensalem) would then scatter just one base knock over the final three frames.
A five-run third, in which the Tigers batted around, turned out to be more than enough offense.
Peter Hrousis (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic (Northampton CC)) led off with a single and after a
Frank Provenzano (Philadelphia, Pa./La Salle College) walk, the first run came home on a
Brayden King (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek (Chattanooga State CC)) sacrifice bunt and ensuing throwing error.
Logan Mote (Branchburg, N.J./Gill St. Bernard's School (Lackawanna College)) then drove home two with a single and following a
Torin McKenzie (Hamilton, N.J./Nottingham (Mercer County CC)) walk, a
Jephson Hadson-Taylor (Cheltenham, Pa./La Salle College (University of Maine)) sacrifice fly and another error closed out the scoring.
McKenzie finished a perfect 2-for-2 with a walk, while Hadson-Taylor was 1-for-1 with a base on balls.
Game One
Perry Chetney's (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Baldwinsville (Millersville University)) two-run home run put Holy Family ahead 2-1 in the fourth, but College of Staten came right back with two runs of its own in the fifth.
The Dolphins had taken advantage of a leadoff error to open the scoring in the first.
The Tigers had multiple runners reach in both the fifth and sixth, before King led off the seventh with a walk, but CSI was able to escape without allowing another run.
Grant Carlton (Ooltewah, Tenn./Boyd Buchanan) struck out seven over five frames, in which he gave up two earned on four hits, while
Tim Gress (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) then threw two scoreless innings of relief.
Mote led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance.
