Softball Wins Twice on Second Day in Florida

MELBOURNE, Fla. – The HFU Softball Team picked up a pair of victories on its second day in Florida on Tuesday, defeating University of Mary, 8-6, and Davis & Elkins, 5-2, on Tuesday.

Mary
Holy Family scored in each of its first two at-bats, highlighted by a six-run second, to take control against UMary.

After Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh), Jaden Kelly (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford) and Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) singles - the latter of which drove in two - got HFU on the board in the first, the Tigers sent 12 to the plate in the second.

Lindsey Gorka (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) started it with a walk and following a Kathryn McHale (Frankford, Del./Indian River) single, Hobel, Kelly and Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) came through with three consecutive RBI base knocks, the latter of which was a double that drove in two to make it 6-0.

After a pitching change, Adrianna Lisotto (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) drew a walk before Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) put a stamp on the frame with another two-run double.

The Marauders countered by scoring in each of the next three innings, but Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) would come on to get the final two outs of the fourth, highlighted by Hobel throwing out a runner trying to score from center field.

Moore would proceed to retire the next seven and despite a one-out single in the seventh, she ended the game without any further damage to earn the win. That capped a relief performance in which she surrendered just two hits, with four strikeouts and no walks, over 3.2 innings.

Offensively, Hoban led the way with three hits and the two RBI, while Hobel and Kelly each had two hits, two runs an RBI.

Davis & Elkins
Holy Family again led throughout after scoring in the first, as a Hobel leadoff single led to her coming home following a Kelly hit-by-pitch and sacrifices from Hoban and Grubb.

Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) kept Davis & Elkins off the board for the first five frames, and the Tigers plated runs in the each of the third through sixth innings.

RBIs by Adrianna Lisotto (Middletown, N.J./Middletown North) made it 2-0 in the second and then 5-1 in the sixth, which proved to plenty of run support for Hall, who earned the complete game win after surrendering two runs on five hits, while striking out nine.

Hoban went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI to cap a day in which she finished 5-fo-7 with tow doubles, three runs, three RBI and 2 SB.

Gorka had two base knocks as well.
