Men’s Lacrosse Knocks Off Defending CACC Tournament Champion Georgian Court

PHILADELPHIA - The HFU Men's Lacrosse Team outscored Georgian Court 5-2 in the first quarter and 9-4 in the first half en route to defeating the Lions, the defending Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament champions, 12-9 on Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Adam Wickel (Louisville, Ky./Trinity) saved 16 of the 25 shots he faced to earn a win in a third consecutive start
  • Logan O'Keefe (Levittown, Pa./Conwell-Egan Catholic) had double the amount of caused turnovers as any other player with four, tying a career-best, while Cole Galvao (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) and John Henson (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) also caused multiple turnovers
  • Jayden Williams (Mays Landing, N.J./Atlantic County Institute of Technology) led Holy Family with four points as he netted his first collegiate hat trick
  • Parker Smith (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) recorded a hat trick too, while Noah Simpson (Oshawa, Ontario/Henry Street) had two goals and an assist
  • Xander Kelly (Shohola, Pa./Delaware Valley) and James Bienia (East Moriches, N.Y./Westhampton Beach) also had three points, with each dishing out a team-high two assists
  • Frank Britsch (Feasterville, Pa./Holy Ghost Preparatory School (Moravian)) topped the Tigers with six faceoff wins and four ground balls 
  • Jackson Brown (Cape May, N.J./Lower Cape May) joined O'Keefe and Bienia with three ground balls

  • Holy Family tied a season-best with 16 caused turnovers
 
How it Happened
  • It was GCU who opened the scoring one minute in, but the Tigers came back with the next five as Kelly netted the fourth before setting up Williams for the fifth with 3:03 left in the first quarter
  • The two teams alternated the next three goals, before HFU scored thrice in just 1:30 for a 9-3 edge with 8:02 to go in the first half
  • The Lions closed out the second period scoring with 50 seconds on the clock to cut the deficit to five at the break, and the two teams netted two goals apiece in the third, all of which came in the final 4:59
  • Georgian Court made a rally to within two, 11-9, with 7:24 remaining in the contest, but the Lions could not score again as Wickel made two saves down the stretch before Williams sealed the victory by completing his hat trick
