MELBOURNE, Fla. – The HFU Softball team opened its season with matchups versus 2025 NCAA Tournament participants Southern New Hampshire and Findlay on Monday afternoon.
The Tigers outhit the Penmen in the opener, 6-4, but would strand seven in scoring position - three of which were left on third – in a 0-2 loss.
Holy Family then went up 2-0 in the first inning of the nightcap before suffering a 2-5 comeback defeat against the Oilers.
The Tigers the loaded the bases in the first as walks by
Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and
Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) sandwiched a
Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) single.
Adrianna Liotto got HFU on the board with a sacrifice fly, and
Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) doubled the lead with another RBI.
Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) would throw scoreless innings, but Findlay would plate runs in the third, fourth and fifth.
Grubb reached base multiple times in both games, finishing the day 2-for-5 with a triple, double and two base on balls.
Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) threw a complete game in the opener, surrendering just four hits over six innings.
