Men’s Basketball Pulls Away from Chestnut Hill in 83-67 Win

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University Men's basketball Team had its best shooting night of the season in an 83-67 triumph over Chestnut Hill inside of the Campus Center on Tuesday night. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) highlighted the performance, pouring in a game and season-high 26 points on 9-of-10 field goals, 6-of-7 3-pointers and 2-of-2 free throws
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) added 19 points on 8-of-10 shooting and a team-best seven rebounds
  • Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) was also in double-figures with 13 points on 6-of-11 shooting and a game-high four assists
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) had four assists too, to go along with eight points and a team-best two steals
  • Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) contributed eight points and seven boards

  • Holy Family's 54.2 shooting percent was its best since it shot 54.5 percent in a win over Georgian Court on Dec. 2, 2023
 
How it Happened
  • The entirety of the first half was played within two possessions - with eight lead chances and three ties - until HFU closed on a 10-2 run, beginning with four straight points by Coursey and ending when he beat the buzzer for a 34-27 scoreline entering the locker room
  • Chestnut Hill cut the second half deficit to five twice, including at 38-33, before Gardler poured in eight straight points – beginning and ending with 3-pointers – to establish a 46-33 advantage on a triple with 15:58 remaining
  • The Griffins got as close as seven twice, including at 49-42 with 12:09 left, only for a Jett layup and Gardler trifecta to push the cushion into double-digits for good
