PHILADELPHIA –
Omarion Jett's (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) free throw with three seconds remaining in overtime gave the HFU Men's Basketball Team an 85-84 triumph over Bridgeport on Saturday afternoon inside of the Campus Center.
The Tigers trailed for eight seconds in the extra period, at 82-83, following two Purple Knights free throws with 54 seconds showing.
Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) came right back down the floor with a layup and after one more UB foul shot to tie it up with 27 seconds on the clock, Jett was fouled on a shot attempt.
Individual Highlights
- Jett led all players with five assists and three steals, in addition to his six points
- Gardler also had five assists, and he was one of five Tigers in double figures with 10 points
- Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) topped Holy Family with 16 points, to go along with three steals
- Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) and Semaj Bethea (Camden, N.J./Camden) both contributed 12 points, a season-best for the latter
- Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) had 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds
- CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) tied a season-best with eight points

How it Happened
- Five consecutive points by Bethea, capped by a three-point play, gave HFU a game-high 29-19 advantage midway through the first half
- Bridgeport later used seven in a row to take its first lead, 36-38, just 1:46 ahead of the break, but the Tigers countered with the last six points for a four-point halftime cushion
- Holy Family led by as many seven in the second, 58-51, when a Karrington Wallace (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Central Connecticut State University)) layup with 12:43 showing completed a 13-4 stretch
- The Purple Knights came back with a 3-13 flurry of their own, matching their largest advantage, 61-64, with 9:09 left
- This time the Tigers used eight unanswered, the final five of which were by Mundell, as his layup established a 69-64 edge with 6:10 to play
- Bridgeport would tally five in a row to tie it at 71 three minutes later though, and each team made one basket in the final two minutes before an HFU shot at the buzzer missed
- Coursey won the overtime tip and Jett immediately scored, as the Tigers led until a UB three-point play knotted it up at 80 with 1:53 to go
- Hernandez made a step back 24 seconds after, before the Purple Knights went 3-for-4 at the line for their only lead in the extra period
