Dominant First Half Seals Perfect January for Women’s Basketball; Tigers Clinch CACC Tournament Berth

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University Women's Basketball Team completed an 9-0 January with an 87-28 win over Post on Saturday afternoon inside of the Campus Center. 
 
The Tigers outscored the Eagles 41-8 in the first half of the victory, including 20-2 in the second quarter. 
 
The result also clinched HFU's fourth consecutive Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament appearance. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) and Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) had the game's two-highest point totals, with 17 and 16, combining to make 13-of-19 field goals
    • Meredith also led all players with a season-best five assists
  • Lauren Palangio (North Huntingdon, Pa./Norwin) recorded her second double-double in four games with 10 points and a game-high 11 rebounds
  • Shania Howard (Naugatuck, Conn./Holy Cross) was one of five Tigers in double-figures with a season-best 11 points
  • Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) also had 10 points, while Kaelah Carter (Watervliet, N.Y./Shaker (The College of Saint Rose)) contributed nine
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) led Holy Family with three steals

  • The 28 points were the fewest by an HFU opponent since Georgian Court scored 28 on Jan. 12, 2013
 
How it Happened
  • Hinkle scored the first six points and the Tigers led by multiple possessions the rest of the way
  • HFU tallied the final seven points of the first quarter, four of which were by Palangio, and the first 13 of the second, completing 20 unanswered when Hinkle made two free throws for a 34-6 scoreline with 5:34 left in the half 
  • Meredith then capped a 7-0 run with the final four points of the second to establish the 41-8 edge entering the locker room
