Men’s Basketball’s Late Push at CACC Unbeaten Felician Falls Short

RUTHERFORD, N.J. – The HFU Men's Basketball Team cut a 17-point deficit to five late, but the Tigers ran out of gas in a 57-70 loss at Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) unbeaten Felician on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) led Holy Family with five assists and a game-high three steals
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) topped the Tigers with 15 points
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)), Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) and Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) all pulled down a team-best seven rebounds
    • Dupouy matched CJ Mundell (Somerdale, N.J./Sterling) with a game-high two blocks
  • Semaj Bethea (Camden, N.J./Camden) notably scored nine points in his Holy Family debut
  • Also making his Tigers debut was Joshua Jones (Bridgeton, N.J./Clayton)
 
How it Happened
  • Felician scored the first seven points and eventually built a lead as large as 14-31, after 11 unanswered, with 4:41 left in the first half
  • Bethea would score seven points in the final 4:07 to help HFU cut the deficit to 24-36 entering the locker room, and the Tigers tallied the first five points of the second to complete a 15-5 stretch
  • The Golden Falcons responded with a 2-11 run to go back up by 16, 31-47, with 14:03 to go
  • Felician was still up 44-57 before eight straight HFU points, four of which were by Coursey, made it a five-point game on his layup with 6:27 remaining
  • Two Howell-South free throws also cut the deficit to five, 54-59, 51 seconds later, but the Golden Falcons used seven in a row to pull away
