Volleyball Opens Season with Sweeps of Lincoln and Kutztown

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University volleyball team opened its campaign with sweeps of both Lincoln (25-6, 25-18, 25-14) and Kutztown (25-9, 25-12, 25-22) on Saturday afternoon inside of the Campus Center. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Freshman Mia Wise (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) led both matches in assists, totaling 53 on the afternoon, to go along with eight service aces
  • Morgan Marziani-Radomski (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) posted a match-high five aces in both contests
  • Freshman Mackenzie Layton (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) led all players with 11 kills in her collegiate debut, as both she and Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) finished the day with a team-best 17 kills
    • Kinzer and Kalia Espenlaub (New Market, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep (Millersville)) paced the Tigers with nine kills in the nightcap
  • Keira Rogan (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) had a team-high 11 digs in both matches
  • Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) topped the Tigers with five blocks on the day, while Leah Logan (Bloomfield, N.J./Abundant Life Academy) had a match-best four blocks in the opener
  • Also making their collegiate debuts on Saturday were Lauren Dallas (Fall Creek, Wis./Fall Creek) and Rosslyn Briggs (Hagerstown, Md./Boonsboro)

  • Holy Family had double the amount of combined kills, 74-37, and service aces, 23-11, than their opponents
 
How it Happened
  • In the sweep of Lincoln, HFU trailed just once in the first two sets, after dropping the opening point of the match, before overcoming a 0-6 deficit in the third
  • The Tigers then never trailed in the first two sets of the nightcap, before overcoming a 13-17 deficit in the third thanks to a match-ending 12-5 surge
