PHILADELPHIA – A Dominican 3-pointer at the buzzer missed, sending the No. 25 HFU women's basketball team to its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship Game since 2020 following a 58-56 semifinal triumph over the Chargers on the campus of Jefferson on Saturday afternoon.
HFU appeared to be in control after opening the third quarter on a 17-4 run for a game-high 43-32 lead on a
Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) free throw with 2:23 left in the penultimate period, but the Chargers came back with 13 of the next 15 points to go ahead 46-47 with 6:49 to play.
Prevost came right back down the court with a layup though, beginning a 10-3 surge.
Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) followed with another layup and after DU scored its only point in a 6:32 stretch, a 3-pointer to tie it at 50 with 4:28 remaining,
Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) put the Tigers on top for good with a jumper 21 seconds later.
Neither team scored for 2:21 after that, as a Hinkle jumper made it 54-50 with 1:46 to go.
Two Searfoss foul shots completed the 10-3 stretch with 22 seconds on the clock, but the Chargers countered with a 3-pointer.
Dominican then followed an
Amy Ngo (Fort Washington, Pa./Upper Dublin) free throw with a three-point play to cut the deficit 57-56 with nine seconds showing, and after a Searfoss foul shot, the Chargers missed at the buzzer.
