BENSALEM, Pa. – The HFU softball team exploded for 12 runs in its final three at-bats en route to a 12-1 victory over Dominican in the nightcap of the two teams' Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) openers on Saturday afternoon.
The Chargers used three first inning runs to win game one 1-4, despite the Tigers outhitting them 7-4.
Individual Highlights
- Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) reached in all four of her plate appearances, finishing 3-for-3 with a walk, double, two RBI and a run
- Erin Stilton (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) also had three base knocks, the second three-hit performance of her career, featuring a double and a career-high three RBI
- Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) reached three times as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk, home run, two RBI and two runs
- The 12 runs were more than enough run support for Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas), who earned a second consecutive complete game swin after allowing one earned run on five hits over six innings
- Gabrielle Wiley (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the opener, while reliever Molly Moore (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) pitched three innings of perfect relief
How it Happened
Game One
- Dominican led throughout after the three-run first featured two home runs
- HFU cut the deficit to 1-3 with back-to-back one out doubles by Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) and Wiley in the third, before loading the bases with one out in the fourth, but the Chargers were able to escape the threat without any damage
- Dominican then closed out the scoring in the bottom-half
Game Two
- After a scoreless first three frames, HFU exploded for multiple runs in fourth, fifth and sixth, the latter of which featured 12 Tigers coming to the plate and seven runs on seven hits
- Stilton had a hit in all three frames, driving in a run in the first two before doubling in the last
