BENSALEM, Pa. – The Holy Family University softball outhit No. 23 Kutztown 16-15 on the day, but the Golden Bears would prevail 2-3 and 2-4 in the Tigers' season-openers at Bensalem High School on Wednesday.
Individual Highlights
- Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) reached base multiple times in both games as she went 3-for-5 with two hit-by-pitches and an RBI
- Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) also a hit in both contests, finishing 3-for-6 with an RBI,
- Rylee Hobel (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) had two hits and a run in the opener, while Carlie Miller (Hermitage, Pa./Hickory) had two hits and a run in the nightcap
- Game one starter Kinsley Hall (Frankford, Del./Indian River) produced a quality start, allowing three runs over her seven innings
- Game two starter Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) also threw a complete game
How it Happened
Game One
- Holy Family jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first as Hobel led off with a single, Grubb sacrificed her to second and Alexis Letizia (Toms River, N.J./Donovan Catholic) (double) and Ciasullo (single) came through with RBI base hits
- Kutztown did all of its damage in the third, which began with a strikeout before the Golden Bears used three singles and three walks to plate three runs, all of which came with two outs
- The Tigers had a single in the third, fourth, fifth and six, including one to lead off the first three, but could not push the tying run across
Game Two
- Batting first, Holy Family erased KU's two-run first with a two-run second
- Erin Stilton (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Liberty) led off with a double and after a Miller single, Lily Hoban (Millsboro, Del./Indian River) halved the deficit with a sacrifice
- Following a Gabrielle Wiley (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Moreland) single and the second out, Grubb then came through with an RBI single to tie the score
- HFU stranded two in the third though, and the Golden Bears closed out the scoring with a two-run homer in the bottom-half despite the Tigers advancing a runner into scoring position in the fifth
