Men’s Basketball Hosts Georgian Court for First CACC Home Game

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU Men's Basketball Team hosted its first Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) game of the season on Wednesday night inside of the Campus Center, falling to Georgian Court 70-85. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) led all players with 18 points on 7-of-10 field goals, 10 rebounds, three steals and two blocks for his second consecutive double-double
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) tied a game-high with four assists, while adding 11 points
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) was also in double-figures with 10 points, while Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) added nine
  • AJ Cortes (Miami, Fla./Miami) notably scored his first four collegiate points
 
How it Happened
  • A Coursey free throw put HFU up 11-10 6:05 into the action, but GCU scored 16 of the next 18 points to take control, ending with two foul shots establishing a 13-26 advantage with 9:06 left in the first 
  • The Tigers clawed back to within seven, 22-29, as seven unanswered capped a 9-2 spurt on two Coursey foul shots with 7:22 showing on the first half clock
  • The Lions responded with a 2-10 run of their own though, before closing the half with 10 of the final 13 points as a buzzer beater established a game -high 31-49 lead going into the locker room 
  • HFU scored the first seven points of the second half, and the Tigers cut the deficit to 10 on three occasions, but they could never make it a single-digit deficit in the second half
