Men’s Basketball’s Late Push Falls Short at College of Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND – The HFU Men's Basketball Team cut what at one point was a 27-point deficit to single digits in the final minutes of an eventual 95-104 loss at College of Staten Island on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Trailing 51- 78 with 12:56 to go and then 66-88 with 6:26 left, Holy Family got as close as nine on three occasions.
 
Six different Tigers scored in a 17-4 surge that made it a single-digit game for the first time in the second half, 83-92, on two Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) free throws with 2:27 remaining. 
 
The Dolphins would respond with the next four points though, before eventually sealing the victory by making 8-of-8 foul shots in the final 46 seconds. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Matt Gardler (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) led HFU with 19 points apiece, a season-best for both, with Gardler adding game-highs of seven assists and four steals while making 6-of-9 field goals
  • Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) led all players with 10 rebounds and added 15 points for his fourth double-double of the year
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) scored 16 points while Jett and Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) each had 12, with the latter making 5-of-6 field goals
