Jett’s Late Free Throw, Final Defensive Stand Seal Men’s Basketball’s Comeback Victory Over Lock Haven

PHILADELPHIA – Omarion Jett (Montclair, N.J./Saint Benedict's Prep (American International College)) hit a go-ahead free throw with 13 seconds remaining, and the HFU Men's Basketball Team forced two misses at the buzzer to seal a 74-73 comeback triumph over Lock Haven inside of the Campus Center on Thursday evening. 
 
The Tigers trailed by as many as 17 in the opening minutes of the second half before tying the score at 62 with seven minutes left. 
 
The two teams would trade points until Di'Andre Howell-South (Paterson, N.J./Immaculate Conception (Wagner College)) both started and ended a 6-0 surge for a 73-69 advantage with 2:04 to go. 
 
The Bald Eagles would tie the game on a 3-poiner with 41 seconds showing though, only to have Jett answer with the game-winning free throw. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Najee Coursey (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek (Sacred Heart University)) led all players with 22 points on 9-of-15 shooting and added a team-high eight rebounds
  • Howell-South and Jett were also in double-figures with 18 and 10 points, respectively
    • The two posted respective game-highs of two blocks (Howell-South) and three steals (Jett) 
  • Elijah Hernandez (Bronx, N.Y./Our Savior Lutheran (Westchester CC)) led all players with six assists and added eight points

  • Lock Haven shot better from the floor, but HFU had 17 more shot attempts thanks to winning the offensive rebound (17-7) and turnover battle (7-15)
  • The Tigers held significant edges in points in the paint (46-28), second chance points (18-7) and points off turnovers (18-7)
 
How it Happened
  • Holy Family held its largest lead, 7-2, on a Raphael Dupouy (Bordeaux, France/Central Pointe Christian Academy (Yavapai College)) dunk just 2:29 in
  • Lock Haven tallied the final 10 points of the first half for a 40-27 advantage entering the locker room
  • Back-to-back 3-pointers less than two minutes out of the break established the largest lead of the evening, 29-46
  • Coursey poured in the next seven points, beginning a 13-3 stretch that he also finished with a layup to cut the deficit to 42-49 with 14:03 remaining
  • The Bald Eagles responded with a triple though, re-establishing a double-digit advantage 
  • The cushion remained multiple possessions until back-to-back Coursey baskets began the six unanswered that led to Hernandez tying the score at 62 with 7:01left
