LAFAYETTE HILL, Pa. – Two goals in the opening 4:48 lifted Chestnut Hill to an eventual 2-3 win over the Holy Family men's soccer team on Tuesday night.
Twice HFU cut the deficit to one in the second half, but the Tigers could never tie the score despite more than doubling up the Griffins in shots on frame, 13-6.
Holy Family also had more than double the amount of corner kicks, 10-4.
After
Ned Lewis (London, England/Hayesbrook) made it 2-1 from the penalty spot 8:57 out of the break,
Mamadou Nianghane (Dakar, Senegal/Abraham Lincoln),
Corey Yorke (Orange, N.J./Orange) and
Ricardo Paniccia Giraldez (O Porriño, Spain/IES Pino Manso) all had attempts saved over the next 12 and a half minutes.
Chestnut Hill would then convert a penalty of its own, the eventual game-winner, in the 69th minute.
The Tigers made one final push when
Jackson Kiss (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) set up
Jesus Gonzalez (Madrid, Spain/Colegio Artica) with 5:15 to play, but the Griffins' keeper made two of his 11 stops in the final two and a half minutes, denying both
Lucca Saad (São Paulo, Brazil/The Phelps School) and
Joey Phillips (Levittown, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) from equalizing.
