PHILADELPHIA – The HFU men's soccer team cut into a 0-2 deficit with a goal 2:44 into the second half, but a red card would follow less than a minute later and the 10-men Tigers ultimately fell short, 1-3, against nationally-ranked Post on Saturday afternoon.
Ever Maradiaga (Edgewater Park, N.J./Life Center Academy) headed home his team-leading fourth goal, and his third in two games, off a cross from
Hugo Gutierrez (Valladolid, Spain/Nuestra Señora del Lourdes) to instantly provide a spark for Holy Family out of the break.
Joey Phillips (Levittown, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) would then make four of his career-high eight saves over the next 26-plus minutes to keep the Tigers in it, but
Kevin Castro (Bensalem, Pa./Father Judge) was denied in the 66th before the Eagles made it 1-3 with an even eight minutes on the clock.
Holy Family had a penalty in the final minute saved to seal the final score.
Post opened the scoring just 2:19 in seconds in and after three stops rom Phillips, as well as a Castro attempt on net in the 12th minute, the Eagles doubled their lead in the 36th.
Holy Family held a 5-3 edge in corners, with Post outshooting the Tigers just 7-8 over the final 45 minutes.
Joao Luiz Gouvea (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil/Life Center Academy) notably made his collegiate debut on the afternoon.
