Volleyball Prevails in Five Sets at Goldey-Beacom for Second Five-Match Win Streak of Season

WILMINGTON, Del. – The HFU volleyball team pulled away in the fifth set for an important Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory (15-25, 25-23, 25-15, 19-25, 15-9) at Goldey-Beacom on Tuesday night. 
 
Behind 7-8 in the decisive fifth, a Kalia Espenlaub (New Market, Md./Saint John's Catholic Prep (Millersville)) kill sparked a run of six straight points that ended with a Keira Rogan (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) service ace. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Rogan tied a match-high with three aces and led Holy Family with 11 digs
  • Mia Wise (Genoa, Ill./Genoa-Kingston) led all players with 57 assists, one shy of a career-best, and also had three aces
  • Mackenzie Layton (Clarksboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) topped HFU with a season-high 19 kills on .412 hitting, while Leah Logan (Bloomfield, N.J./Abundant Life Academy) fell one block shy of a match-best with five 
  • Four Tigers finished with double-digit kills and at least .250 hitting
    • Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) – 14 on .294 hitting
    • Espenlaub – 11 on .250 hitting
    • Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) – 10 on .350 hitting

How it Happened
  • HFU trailed by a set and 18-19 in the second before 5-1 surge ending with a Rogan ace sparked the comeback 
  • The Tigers would then tally five of the first six points of the third, highlighted by two Kinzer kills, and never trailed en route to a 2-1 lead
  • Goldey-Beacom reversed coursed in the fourth though, scoring seven of the first eight points as it never trailed
