Baseball Reaches 20-Win Mark with Game One Comeback at Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND – The HFU baseball team reached the 20-win mark in its first season with a 3-2 game one comeback victory at College of Staten Island in the Tigers' season finale on Saturday.

The Dolphins won the nightcap 1-13.

Individual Highlights
  • Brian Williams (Glenside, Pa./Roman Catholic (Bucks County CC)) produced a quality start with a season-long outing of six innings in which he surrendered just two earned on six hits, while striking out a season-high seven
  • Ian Malone (Bayonne, N.J./Bayonne (Desales University)) earned his first win as a Tiger, throwing two innings of scoreless relief
  • Alex Camilo (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle (Alliance University)) reached base in ball three of his at-bats, finishing the doubleheader 2-for-2 with a base on balls
  • Jon Martinez (Camden, N.J./Timber Creek Regional (Camden CC)) hit the tying home run in the opener, before walking twice in game two
  • Garrison Pregulman (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral (Los Angelas Pierce College)) scored twice in game one, while Zach Morales (Barrington, N.J./Triton Regional (PSU-Abington)) also walked twice in the nightcap

How it Happened
First Game
  • Trailing 0-2 entering the sixth, Martinez followed Pregulman's leadoff double with his game-tying homer
  • After Williams retired the side in the sixth and HFU could not capitalize on Camilo's leadoff single in the seventh, Malone extended the seven-inning game by stranding the bases loaded in the bottom-half
  • A wild pitch on a leadoff strikeout allowed the game-winner run to reach in the eighth
    • Pregulman stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by the catcher
    • Following two consecutive outs, Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) came through with the game-winning double
  • Malone again had to escape a jam in the bottom-half, stranding the tying run on third with back-to-back strikeouts
