Women’s Basketball Rallies to Tie No. 3 Jefferson Late in CACC Semifinal; Rams Close Strong Down Stretch

CALDWELL, N.J. – Trailing by 16 early in the fourth, the HFU women's basketball team held No. 3 Jefferson scoreless for over six minutes to tie the score at 53 with two and a half minutes left in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Semifinal hosted by Caldwell on Saturday evening.

The Rams would respond with the next five points though, eventually holding off the Tigers 57-65.

Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) scored eight of the first nine points of the 16-0 run, before an Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) 3-pointer cut the deficit to 49-53 with 4:25 to play.

Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) followed with a layup and Hinkle then recorded her 10th point in the stretch to
knot things up at 53 with 2:36 to go.

Jefferson (29-1) came right back with its first basket in over six minutes 14 seconds later though, for the first of five straight points.

A long Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) jumper with 44 seconds on the clock got HFU within a single possession, 55-58, but the Rams would seal the victory by making six consecutive free throws.

Individual Highlights
  • Hinkle led all players with 12 rebounds and added a team-high 15 points for her 13th double-double of the season
    • It was her seventh successive game with double-digit boards as she finishes the year fifth in the program's single-season history with 100 offensive rebounds, seventh with 288 total rebounds and ninth with 188 defensive rebounds
  • Prevost and Morrow were also in double-figures with 12 points apiece
  • Carly Bolivar (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka (Alliance)) topped the Tigers with four assists

How it Happened
  • Holy Family jumped out to a 5-2 lead on a Morrow 3-pointer 1:10 in and after Jefferson used a 2-12 spurt to go ahead 7-14 entering the final four minutes of the first, the Tigers tallied five of the final seven points of the period as a Prevost jumper made it 12-16 following 10 minutes of play
  • After the two teams traded points to begin the second, the Rams used six straight points to establish the first double-digit advantage, 14-24, 2:14 into the quarter
  • Bolivar and Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) would combine for the first nine points in 12-4 flurry that ended on a Hinkle triple getting HFU within 26-28 in the final minute and a half, before another Kokolus bucket made it a three-point game, 28-31, at the half
  • Holy Family came out of the locker room with first seven points, five of which were by Morrow as her 3-pointer gave the Tigers their largest lead, 35-31, three minutes into the third
  • Jefferson answered with the next six though, beginning what would turn into a 2-22 surge that ended with the Rams' first basket of the fourth
