Early Action Leads to 5-6 Baseball Loss at St. Thomas Aquinas

HACKETSTTOWN, N.J. – All 11 runs were scored in the first four innings of HFU baseball's 5-6 loss to St. Thomas Aquinas at Centenary College on Wednesday afternoon.

The Tigers led 1-0 after two, 3-0 entering the bottom of the third and 5-4 entering the bottom of the fourth.

Individual Highlights
  • Alex Camilo (Cambridge, Ontario/Monsignor Doyle (Alliance University)) reached base three times with two hits and a base on balls, with his single making it 2-0 in the third
  • Nick Lombardo (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin (Bucks County CC)) also had two hits, a double and an RBI single to make it 5-4 in the fourth
  • Levi Tucker (Denver, Colo./Brighton (Garden City CC)) threw two hitless innings of relief with two strikeouts

How it Happened
  • Zach Morales' (Barrington, N.J./Triton Regional (PSU-Abington)) leadoff triple in the second led to HFU opening the scoring on a Will Cheatham (Brooklyn, N.Y./IMG Academy (Glendale CC)) sacrifice fly, and the Tigers made it 3-0 in the third following a Chris Serrano (Kissimmee, Fla./Elevation Prep (St. Petersburg College)) leadoff walk, Lombardo double, Camilo's single and a Dylan Mercedes (Washington Heights, N.Y./St. Raymonds (Mansfield University)) sacrifice fly
  • The first four Spartans reached in the bottom-half, capped by a grand slam
  • Both teams plated two in the fourth, beginning with back-to-back hit-by-pitches by Dalton Turner (Langorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) and Cheatam, a Devon de Vera (Goodyear, Ariz./Broomfield (Chandler-Gilbert CC)) sacrifice bunt and consecutive RBIs by Serrano and Lombardo
  • St. Thomas Aquinas came through with what would turn out to be the game-winning run on a two-RBI sacrifice fly, after the frame had begun with back-to-back singles
  • Holy Family stranded two runners in scoring position in the seventh and could not threaten any further
