Baseball Travels to 2023 NCAA Tournament Participant Shippensburg

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – The Holy Family University baseball team traveled to 2023 NCAA Tournament participant Shippensburg for a doubleheader on Friday, dropping the two games 2-8 and 0-4.

Individual Highlights
  • Levi Tucker (Denver, Colo./Brighton (Garden City CC)) produced a quality start in game two, retiring 15-of-17 of one point as he limited Ship to three runs on four hits over six innings
  • Aidan Van Reuter (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) threw two frames of scoreless relief in his collegiate debut in the opener, holding the Raiders to just one hit
  • Kelvin Castro (Bayamon, Puerto Rico/Escuela Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra (Iowa CC)) threw a hitless inning of relief in his collegiate debut in the nightcap
  • Devon de Vera (Goodyear, Ariz./Broomfield (Chandler-Gilbert CC)) went 2-for-3 in game two

How it Happened
First Game
  • Shippensburg took control with a two-out, two-run single in the first before adding four more in the third
  • HFU got two back in the fourth thanks to walks by Brian Comer (Charlotte, N.C./Independence (Bucks County CC)) and Dalton Turner (Langorne, Pa./Neshaminy (Bucks County CC)) and an Isaac Criss (Grove City, Pa./Grove City (Bucks County CC)) single, but the Raiders came right back with two of their own in the bottom-half
Second Game
  • Shippensburg again used a two-out hit in the first to ahead, as a double made it 0-1
  • That score-line last until the seventh as just one lone runner reached scoring position in the second through sixth in the top of the third
  • Tucker retired 15-of-17 following the two-out double and until a leadoff homer in the bottom of the seventh
  • The Raiders later added to their advantage with a two-run single
  • HFU advanced runners to second and third with one out in the eighth following a de Vera leadoff single and Gino Serechia (Hammonton, N.J./Hammonton (Shepherd University)) walk, but the Tigers could not push a run across
