Men’s Basketball Defeated by CACC South Leader Wilmington

PHILADELPHIA – The HFU men's basketball team was defeated by Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) South Division leader Wilmington, 92-74, on Wednesday night in the Campus Center.
 
Individual Highlights
  • Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) led four Tigers in double-figures with 16 points, the game's second-highest total, while matching Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) with a team-best two steals
  • Tairi Ketner (Philadelphia, Pa./Woodstock Academy (University at Albany)) scored 13 points on 5-of-9 shooting
  • David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) and Ethan Pires (Dover, Del./The Pennington School (Millersville University)) added 10 points apiece
  • Jason Shields (Scranton, Pa./Scranton (Jefferson University)) pulled down a team-high six rebounds, while Tazir Cantey (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional) paced HFU with four assists
 
How it Happened
  • Holy Family took its lone lead when Robinson Jr. opened the scoring 1:13 in, but the Wildcats responded with a 3-pointer 17 seconds later to go on top for good
  • A Robinson Jr. layup cut the deficit to 4-5, but WilmU tallied 12 unanswered for the first double-digit advantage, 4-17, with 13:53 left
  • The cushion reached as high as 8-23 2:25 later, but Izaiah Credle (Smyrna, Del./Smyrna (Chesapeake College)) and Johnson started and ended an 8-2 flurry with triples to pull within single-digits, 16-25, with 7:57 showing
  • The Tigers got as close as nine on three other occasions, before making it an eight-point game, 28-36, on a Ketner basket entering the final three of the first half
  • The Wildcats closed the period with a 0-11 surge over the final 2:29 though, establishing a double-digit lead for good
