Tidaback’s Second Consecutive Complete Game Win Leads Softball to Split with Jefferson

BENSALEM, Pa. – Paige Tidaback (Carteret, N.J./St. Thomas Aquinas) earned a complete game win for her second start in a row, leading the HFU softball team to a 3-1 game one victory over Jefferson on Wednesday afternoon at Bensalem High School.

The Tigers then brought the tying run to the plate in the nightcap before the Rams held on, 2-4, to salvage the split.

Individual Highlights
  • Tidaback improved to 3-3 on the year after scattering eight hits and with two strikeouts and one base on balls
  • Maria Leedom (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy (Shippensburg)) reached base twice in the opener, highlighted by hitting her first home run of the season, before adding another base knock in game two
  • Madison Grubb (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway) and Sam Ciasullo (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) also had hits in both games, with each recording a run and a double
    • Grubb added a walk and hit-by-pitch, while Ciasullo doubled and had an RBI
  • Makenna Patterson (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) allowed just one run in three innings of relief in the nightcap

Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family had four extra-base hits in the doubleheader, compared to Jefferson's one

How it Happened
Game One
  • Doubles by Grubb (leadoff) and Lauren Hagy (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) (two outs) got HFU on the board in the first
  • Tidaback limited Jefferson to just three singles without a runner reaching scoring position in the first four frames, and Rylee Hobel's (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) leadoff bunt single led to a 2-0 lead in the third after she stole second and was driven by Ciasullo's two-out single
  • The Rams first threatened when they loaded the bases with one out in the fifth, only to be kept off the board when Leedom, playing right field, completed a double play by throwing out a runner at the plate on a flyout
  • She then came right into the dugout and led off the fifth with the homer for a 3-0 edge
  • Jefferson finally got on the board after loading the bases once more in the sixth, this time with none away, but a double play started by shortstop Kylee Jones (Hulmeville, Pa./Neshaminy (Rider)) and an inning-ending flyout meant the Rams only scored once
  • Tidaback then worked around a leadoff single in the seventh by retiring three straight to finish off her complete game
Game Two
  • Jefferson plated one in the first and led throughout, despite HFU advancing two into scoring position in the bottom-half
  • A two-RBI single with two outs in the third turned out to be the game-winner, and the Rams would add unneeded insurance in the fifth
  • Holy Family's bats finally awoke in the sixth as Ciasullo led off with a double
    • Emma Clayborne's (Ambler, Pa./Wissahickon) one-out single advanced her to third, before a double steal with pinch-runner Jasmine Chui (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks South) got the Tigers on the board
  • An error began the seventh, which allowed HFU to cut the deficit in half following a Grubb single and Jones sacrifice fly, but Jefferson was able to get the final out with the tying run at the plate
