PHILADELPHIA – Trailing by 18 midway through the second half, the HFU men's basketball team scored 10 unanswered to get as close as eight entering the final five minutes before running out of gas in a 50-62 loss to Goldey-Beacom on Wednesday night in the Campus Center.
Individual Highlights
- David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) paced all players with nine rebounds and two blocks
- Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) led a balanced scoring attack with 14 points, with Vernon Johnson (Teaneck, N.J./Teaneck) adding nine and Eric Esposito (Langhorne, Pa./Conwell Egan) and Rick'Keem Mixson (Linden, N.J./St. Mary of the Assumption (Raritan Valley CC)) both totaling eight
- Mixson and Johnson had Holy Family's two highest assist totals, four and three respectively, while Espoito tallied a game-high three steals
- Esposito also pulled down four defensive rebounds to notably become the 10th Tiger in program history to surpass 500

- Led by Hurst, Holy Family more doubled up GBC in bench points, 23-11, and the Tigers made four more 3-pointers, 10-6
- The Lightning doubled up HFU at the free throw line however, 6-18, while outscoring the Tigers 8-24 in the paint
How it Happened
First Half
- There were two early ties, the second of which came at 8-8 after Mixson and Johnson followed back-to-back 3-pointers by GBC with back-to-back triples of their own
- Johnson later made a free throw to knot the score for a third time at 15-15 midway through the period
- A three-point play started a 5-19 surge for a first-high-high 14-point advantage, 20-34, following a 3-pointer 2:37 ahead of the break
- Mixson and Hurst would each score three points down the stretch however, with Hurst's foul shot cutting the deficit to 26-34 entering the locker room
Second Half
- The two teams began the second half trading points, with an Esposito trifecta also creating an eight-point deficit, 30-38, 2:54 in
- Goldey-Beacom would take control from there though, tallying the next 11 points for a game-high 19-point cushion, 30-49, on a 3-pointer with 11:40 left
- The Lightning then went up 34-52 with just 10:13 to go before HFU made its move
- Holding Goldey scoreless for exactly six minutes, Johnson hit two 3-pointers as part of 10 unanswered that got the Tigers as close as eight, 44-52, when Hurst made a free throw with 5:49 showing
- Holy Family ran out of gas there though, as the Lightning responded with the ensuing six points to make it a double-digit lead for good
