Dominant Second Quarter Highlights 80-51 Win Over GCU in CACC Home Opener

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University women's basketball team outscored Georgian Court 23-5 in the second quarter of an eventual 80-51 win inside of the Campus Center on Saturday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) led all players with 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting, eight rebounds and a career-high five steals in just 19 minutes of action
  • Kara Meredith (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Archbishop Wood) was the only other Tiger in double-figures as she finished with a season-best in scoring, 12 on 5-of-9 field goals, for the second game in a row
  • Nine Tigers tallied at least six points, with Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) (4-of-7 shooting),  contributing nine and Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) (3-of-4) and Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) adding eight
    • Tretter notably moved into ninth in program history with 105 career 3-pointers
  • Carolyn Prevost (Belle Mead, N.J./Montgomery) recorded six points and led all players with a career-high six assists and two blocks
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) scored seven points on 3-of-4 shooting, while Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) and Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) both netted six off the bench
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family shot a season-best 50.8 percent (32-of-63) from the floor while dishing out a season-high 26 assists, its most since Nov. 9, 2018
 
How it Happened
First Quarter
  • Georgian Court was ahead 4-10 midway through the first, but HFU tallied 12 unanswered to end the period on a 14-3 surge and take the lead for good
  • Dougherty's layup with 2:53 left put the Tigers on top 11-10, and Meredith capped the run with the final five points, including a 3-pointer with 1:32 showing
  • After the Lions got on the board for the first time in 3:58, Dougherty closed out the quarter with another layup for an 18-13 score-line
Second Quarter
  • The two teams traded baskets to begin the second, but this time it was 15 unanswered that ended with HFU ahead 35-15 on a Hinkle jumper, her sixth point in the stretch, at the 4:18 mark 
  • Georgian Court's drought lasted this 5:07 this time, as five different Tigers scored
  • Anujin Dashdorj (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Riepe ended the half with 3-pointers to complete a 23-5 period for a 41-18 advantage at the break
Second Half
  • Hinkle began and ended an opening 10-2 flurry that ended with her steal and ensuring layup just 2:18 in, as the lead was 24+ for the entirety of the second half
