Women’s Soccer Falls to Bridgeport in CACC Championship Match

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – Defending champion and host Bridgeport scored two long-range goals in the opening 33:26 en route to sealing an eventual 3-1 win over the HFU women's soccer team in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Tournament Championship Match on Sunday.

The Purple Knights struck from outside the box in the 10th and 34th minutes, before adding unneeded insurance in the 65th against the run of play, after the Tigers had attempted the previous six shots.

Brynn Hess (Benton, Pa./Benton) got Holy Family on the board with 23:01 left but Tigers could never get the deficit to one, with Maura Kilkenny (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Little Flower) firing right of the net in the 75th and 76th.

Hess and Kilkenny tied a match-high with four shots apiece, with Hess leading all players with three attempts on net.

Seeking its first CACC title since 2011, HFU doubled up UB in corners, 4-2, with the Purple Knights holding a slight 12-14 edge in shots.

The Tigers had there of the first four attempts of the contest, with Hess forcing the first save following back-to-back shots in the 13th and 14th minutes.

Bridgeport then had the next five, all of which were off frame aside from the goal, before HFU made its push early in the second.

The Tigers had six consecutive attempts in a 10:47 stretch between the 53rd and 64th minutes, three of which were by Allison Loper (Bensalem, Pa./Nazareth Academy (Georgian Court)) as she, Izzy Mignon (Pipersville, Pa./Central Bucks East) and Hess were all denied by the Purple Knights' keeper.

Holy Family keeper Jaina Preuhs (Brookhaven, Pa./Sun Valley) made all four of her stops in the final 26 minutes, including one 39 seconds before the UB made it 0-3.

After the match, Hess, Kilkenny, Loper and Gianna Penecale (Huntingdon Valley, Pa./Lower Moreland) were named to the All-Tournament Team.
