Women’s Basketball Uses Dominant First Half to Pick Up First Win of Season,73-48 Over College of Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND – The Holy Family University women's basketball team outscored College of Staten Island 39-16 in the first half of an eventual 73-48 win, the Tigers' first of the season, over the Dolphins on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Claire Dougherty (Lehman, Pa./Lake-Lehman) led all players with two blocks and a career-high 15 points on 7-of-12 shooting in 22 minutes
  • Skyler Searfoss (Jim Thorpe, Pa./Jim Thorpe Area) posted her second career double-double with a game-high 10 rebounds and 10 points
  • Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) fell two points shy of a career-best with 12 points on 5-of-9 shooting in 12 minutes, while Taylor Hinkle (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) was also in double-figures with 10 points
  • Anujin Dashdorj (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) led all players with four assists
 
Inside the Box Score
  • Holy Family limited CSI to just 30.0 percent shooting, 16-of-60, including 21.4 percent, 6-of-28, in the first half
  • The Tigers dominated inside, outrebounding the Dolphins 42-29 and outscoring them 34-20 in the paint
 
How it Happened
  • Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) opened the scoring with a layup 40 seconds in and HFU led throughout, after holding CSI scoreless for the first 6:54
  • The Tigers were up 11-0 at that point, with Dougherty scoring four points in the stretch and Hinkle adding a three-point play
  • Two Jenn Kokolus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) free throws with 1:02 left in the first quarter made it a double-digit advantage for good, 18-7, and Searfoss ended the first quarter with a basket for a 20-7 score-line following 10 minutes of play
  • Riepe capped an 8-2 stretch to begin the second with five straight points that put HFU up 28-9 at the 5:44 mark
  • Dougherty's layup 1:37 ahead of the break made it a 20-point lead for good, 37-16, before Hinkle closed out the half with a jumper for the 39-16 halftime advantage
