Men’s Basketball Wraps Up Season-Opening Weekend Hosting AIC

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University men's basketball team wrapped up its season-opening weekend with a 62-79 loss to AIC in the Campus Center on Sunday afternoon. 
 
Individual Highlights
  • Tazir Cantey (Lindenwold, N.J./Eastern Regional) fell two points shy of a game-high with 18, including making 7-of-7 free throws, while also leading the Tigers with four assists
  • Tairi Ketner (Philadelphia, Pa./Woodstock Academy (University at Albany)) and Aamir Hurst (Philadelphia, Pa./Neumann Goretti) were also in double-figures with 10 points apiece
    • Ketner led all players with nine rebounds, while Hurst posted a game-high three steals
  • Ethan Pires (Dover, Del./The Pennington School (Millersville University)) scored eight, Jason Shields (Scranton, Pa./Scranton (Jefferson University)) added seven and David Robinson Jr. (Philadelphia, Pa./Chestnut Hill Academy) contributed seven points and seven boards
 
How it Happened
  • HFU jumped out to a 6-2 advantage less than three minutes in after back-to-back 3-pointers by Cantey and Pires
  • There were six lead changes and two ties in the opening 8:40, before AIC used 10 unanswered to go up eight, 13-21, on a layup with 9:11 remaining
  • The Tigers responded with eight straight of their own, tying the score for a third time on Shields' basket just 2:21 later
  • The Yellow Jackets answered the ensuing trip down the floor though, taking the lead for good
  • Holy Family got as close as two twice, including at 24-26 on two Cantey free throws with 4:25 showing, but AIC closed the half on a 2-13 surge for a 27-39 halftime advantage
  • The lead remined in double-digits the entirety of the second half
