NEW CASTLE, Del. – The Holy Family University men's soccer team overcame a 0-1 deficit to take the lead early in the second half, 2-1, only for Wilmington to score twice in the span of 45 seconds for what turned out to be an eventual 2-3 score-line on Wednesday afternoon.
Sergio Revuelta (Valladolid, Spain/IES Alejandria) scored directly from a corner in the 32nd minute to cancel out the Wildcats' opener just under seven minutes prior, and three and a half minutes into the second half
Lautaro Berisso (La Plata, Argentina/) found
Thiago Lage (Minas Gerais, Brazil/Abington) on a 2-on-1 to put the Tigers ahead.
Lage nearly made it 3-1 just over three minutes later, but after a save Wilmington equalized and then went ahead with an even 36 minutes left on the clock.
Neither team had an attempt on target from that point until
Miguel Andrade (Lisbon, Portugal/Vergillo) was denied by the Wildcats' keeper in the 79th minute.
Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) then made a save with just under six minutes remaining, keeping the deficit at one, but the Tigers were unable to threaten again.
Despite Wilmington holding a 10-17 advantage in shots, HFU had more on target, 7-5. Both teams had six corners.
After the Wildcats had seven of the first nine attempts of the second half, the Tigers had five of the final seven.
Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington) and Revuelta both saw shots stopped in the stretch, while Andrade had two blocked.
Andrade led all players with three attempts.
Lage's goal moved him into the team lead with four on the year, while Revuelta's goal and Berisso's assist were their firsts of the season.
