Volleyball Defeats Dominican in Five in Back and Forth Battle

PHILADELPHIA – The Holy Family University volleyball team came back to defeat Dominican in five, 25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 25-21, 15-10, in a match where each set was determined by five or fewer points on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center.

Tied at 8-8 in the decisive fifth, back-to-back-to-back kills by Sam Swenby (Evergreen, Colo./Evergreen (Loch Haven)), Natasha Yanief (Pittsburgh, Pa./Thomas Jefferson) and Shelby Kinzer (Sioux Falls, S.D./Washington) began a 6-1 run to eventually seal the victory.

After another Kinzer kill and a Chargers error, Maeve Boylan (Ridley Township, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) put a stamp on the stretch with an ace before Ava Kidd (Walton, Ky./Larry A. Ryle (Saint Anselm)) ended the match with a block.

Individual Highlights
  • Boylan surpassed 1,000 career digs after leading all players with 21
  • Kinzer and Morgan Steck (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) had double the amount of aces as any other player with six, a new career-best for both
    • The two also led all players with 17 kills and 47 assists, respectively, while adding 13 digs and 10 digs for their respective fifth and third double-doubles of the year
  • Swenby paced HFU with three blocks, while adding nine kills
  • Kidd had the match's second-highest total with 13 kills, and she was second on the Tigers with two blocks
  • Yanief contributed 11 kills, one shy of a career-best
  • Brianna Moss (Gainesville, Va./Battlefield) set a new season-high with eight digs, with Keira Rogan (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) also adding eight
