PHILADELPHIA – A dominant display in which the HFU men's soccer had more shots on goal than Chestnut Hill had attempts resulted in only a 1-1 draw at Tiger Field on Wednesday night.
Holy Family's five-match unbeaten streak (4-0-1) is its first since 2019.
HFU was left stunned early when the Griffins scored just 1:13 in, but the Tigers responded quickly through
Gavin Rowan's (Levittown, Pa./Neshaminy) tap-in at the back post the just over eight and a half minutes later.
From there CHC could manage just one shot on net the final 88 and a half minutes, as Holy Family pushed for a game-winner that never came.
Inside the Box Score
- Rowan's goal, which was assisted by Lautaro Berisso (La Plata, Argentina/(Camden County CC)) and Sean Touey (Rockledge, Pa./Abington), was high team-high fourth
- As mentioned above, HFU had more attempts on goal (9) than Chestnut Hill had in total (7)
- The Tigers had seven shots itself in the opening 45 minutes
- HFU had a season-high 19 attempts, while the nine on net were one shy of a season-best
- HFU also had triple the amount of corners as the Griffins, 9-3
- Berisso led five Tigers with at least three attempts with a season-high four
How it Happened
First Half
- Gavin's goal came after Touey's cross was redirected onto net by Berisso, with the rebound falling to Rowan at the back post
- The only other shot on net produced a fabulous save by the CHC goalkeeper, denying Joel Richmond (Bridgetown, Barbados/Church Farm) on a free kick in the 38th minute
- The Griffins only other attempt in the opening 45 minutes was blocked in the 43rd
- Michael Forde (Cambridge, United Kingdom/(Harcum College)) had two attempts, one blocked and the other missing high, in the final 1:09
Second Half
- Touey had a shot blocked 50 seconds in, and HFU was unfortunate not to break through as Richmond was denied in the 50th minute before Dakota Taylor (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) hit the post in the 56th
- Chestnut Hill was shown red in the 59th minute, and the Tigers took control with eight of the next 10 attempts
- Touey and Joseph Amabile (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) were denied just over three minutes apart in the 64th and 67th
- Luke Shank (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks West) made his only save in the 77th minute, before Berisso and Forde forced back-to-back saves just over a minute later
- Amabile was denied once again with Holy Family's last shot on net in the 84th
- Chestnut Hill had the last two attempts of the match in the final 2:47, with neither testing Shank's frame
