Holy Family Women Third in Both CACC Restaino and Sportsmanship Standings

The Holy Family University women have tied their third-highest finish in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Restaino Cup standings, as the Tigers placed third for the 2021-22 season.

The Tigers also placed third in the final CACC Sportsmanship standings.

Restaino Cup

2021-22 CACC Restaino Cup Standings

  • Second-place finishes in 2007-08 and 2011-12 are the only seasons in which HFU has placed higher
  • Holy Family has now finished in the top-half of the Restaino Cup standings in 14 of the previous 15 seasons, dating back to when the award once again became annual back in 2006-07
    • The Tigers have been in the top-five in 12 of those 15 seasons

The point system used for the Restaino Cup takes into account each athletic program's finish in both the 2021-22 CACC regular season contests and conference tournaments. Each institution receives a combined point total and the sum is then divided by the number of men's sports the institution competed in during this past season.

Holy Family averaged 9.82 points, more than 1.5 points ahead of fourth-place Wilmington and less than one point behind champion Jefferson's 10.66. Georgian Court placed second with 10.25.

  • Track & field led the way with 12 points following a program-record second place finish at the CACC Championship
  • Not far behind with 11.75 and 11.5 points, respectively, were volleyball and women's soccer, who both captured regular season titles
  • Women's cross country added 11 points to the average thanks to their program-record third-place finish at the CACC Championship
  • Women's lacrosse (9.25 points) and softball (7.25) both made CACC Tournament appearances, while women's basketball (6.00) finished .500 in league play

Sportsmanship

2021-22 CACC Sportsmanship Standings

  • Holy Family's 11.71 average was only behind Nyack's 20.57 and Felician's 13.29

The standings are determined by adding the total number of sportsmanship votes each institution receives over the course of the fall, winter and spring seasons, divided by the total number of sports competed in by the institution during the 2021-22 season.

Each sport's team sportsmanship award is voted on by the conference's head coaches in their respective sport. Head coaches speak with their student-athletes prior to voting to gain feedback on which opposing teams demonstrated outstanding class and character throughout the season.

  • The track & field team led the way with 26 points as it received the league's team sportsmanship award in the sport with 10 more votes than any other institution
  • Three other Holy Family teams finished in the top-three of their respective sport, with women's cross country (17 points), softball (14) and volleyball (10) all receiving double-digit vote totals
  • Women's basketball's nine points were also top-five in the conference
