NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) announced the 2022 men's and women's track and field awards Thursday. The Holy Family University men's and women's teams had a strong showing with freshman Nishorn Pierre (Grenada/Jamaica College HS) named Field Athlete of the Year as well as Field Rookie of the Year while head coach Dwight Brandon was named women's track and field Coach of the Year, first time in school history for both. In addition, the women's track and field team earned the women's Sportsmanship Award.
In his freshman campaign, Pierre made his mark winning the CACC championship in the high and triple jumps. His efforts helped the team finish third overall while also earning first team, all conference recognition. Pierre also became the first Holy Family student-athlete to qualify for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Track and Field Championships in the high jump. His height of 2.11 meters at the Stockton University Invitational made the cut while also breaking both school and conference records. Pierre will continue his banner season at the NCAA Championships on Friday, March 27th at Grand Valley State in Allendale, Michigan.
Brandon, in his fifth year at the helm of the track and field programs, led the women's program to its best finish in the conference. The team finished in second, just twelve points shy of winner Georgian Court University. Brandon coached three individual and two relay team champions at the championships. This is Brandon's first award for CACC coach of the year since taking over the program in the 2016-17 season.
The women's track and field team earned the sportsmanship award for the first time in program history. The award is voted on by conference coaches. The team had a breakthrough year earning its highest finish in the conference while also having multiple all-conference and CACC champions.
