Tigers Fall to Rams in Season Finale



Philadelphia, Pa. – The Holy Family University women's basketball team dropped their final game of the season to city rival Thomas Jefferson University by the score of 74-67 on Saturday afternoon at the Campus Center Gymnasium.  Prior to the game, the Tigers honored senior Megan O'Connell (Philadelphia, Pa./St. Huberts) in part of Senior Day Festivities.

How It Happened
 
* Jefferson closed out the final 3:05 minutes of the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 23-16 lead heading in the second frame.
 
* The Rams swelled their lead to as many as 15 points in the second quarter after Haley Meinel scored a layup basket to make the score 38-23 midway through the quarter. However, Holy Family went on a 15-2 run the final five minutes of the quarter to come within two points of the Ram's lead heading into the half.  Sophomore Lindsay Tretter (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Wood) drained a three-pointer with seven seconds left in the half to make the score 40-38. 
 
* Jefferson opened the third quarter with a 9-0 run to regain a double-digit advantage at 49-38 at the 5:39 mark. The Rams would lead by as many as 12 points (55-43) in the quarter before ending the third with a 57-49 lead. 
 
* In the fourth quarter the Tigers chipped away at the deficit and made it a two-point game at the 6:35 mark after junior Jada Saeger (Walnutport, Pa./Northern Lehigh) split a pair of free throws.  The Rams fired back with eight quick points to lead 69-59 with less than four minutes to play.
 
* Holy Family managed to come within four points of the lead at 71-67 with a minute to play after Tretter basket. That turned out to be the Tigers final score of the game as the Rams converted 3-of-4 from the free throw line in the final minute.
 
Inside the Box Score

 * Tretter led the Tigers with a team-high 20 points; two shy of her career-high set at Jefferson earlier in the season.  Tretter shot 4-of-7 from deep range and grabbed seven rebounds.
 
* Freshman Ava Morrow (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley) finished the game with 12 points and a season-high eight rebounds. 
 
* Freshman Jessica Riepe (Marlboro, N.J./Marlboro) finished with nine points, while O'Connell totaled eight points.  Junior Moe Moore (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) added seven points and eight rebounds in the game.
 
* All five Jefferson starters scored in double-figures with Cassie Murphy leading the way with 24 points (9-12 FG). 
 
All-Time Series
Saturday marked the 42nd meeting between Holy Family and Jefferson dating back to the 1996-97 season.  The Tigers are now 27-14 versus the Rams in the all-time series.
